The First Post
Hi, I’m Kerry, a lifetime lover of design. For as long as I can remember, I have been sketching “my best guess floor plans” of houses that I love from the outside. I add notes on paint colors, fabrics, and furniture placement so that I can imagine living in them. Deep within me, I have always valued the importance of home in life.
I believe when you come home you should feel like you are being hugged by your surroundings. When you invite someone into your home, he or she should feel welcome and immediately at ease. A house does not need to be fancy or trendy, rather your house becomes a home when it as an extension of you.
Growing up, we lived in seven homes – two in Maryland, three in Connecticut, one in Michigan and one in Florida. My parents taught us that location is key and a fixer upper is the way to go. I have followed that mantra in my adult life, owning six homes in four states. We are just about to start the fixer upper phase of house number six.
I would describe my design style as eclectic. I utilize antiques, flea market finds, abstract art, bargain pieces, patterned fabrics and a whole bunch of blue and white. My underlying philosophy is if it “speaks to me, I have to have it” (within reason) and then I find a place to put it and am happy every time I see it. I’m sentimental about furniture and art and try to reuse everything in the next house, even if it’s in a completely different way.
Thank you for reading and I will be back to talk about what I’ve done and what I’m hoping to do!
